Jefferson Street, behind Rainbow Cafe) from 11A-!P to see gardener, Maureen Brennan Skinner, demonstrate her straw bale gardening method. For those of us who want to garden, but live on very rocky terrain or are surrounded by concrete, or don’t want to stoop and bend, or don’t want to till, straw bale gardening is a wonderful option!

Welcome to your 2012 Market Season!

As usual, produce dictates when our market season begins and we’ve gotten word that several vendors will be on hand at Centennial Bank Park (121 Main Street) this Saturday, May 12!

Trish & Dan Stewart from Star Gap Gardens will be at Market with green onions, lettuce, kale, collards, radishes, creme fluff cakes, fried pies and plants such as eggplant, pepper, tomato and basil. Wayne Newman will be there with lots of canning peaches. RC Schroeder was there last week with cucumbers and shiitakes and Dorothy & Ted Tuttle with their honey. We’re betting they’ll be on hand this week as well.

We’re in the process of transitioning to a vendor-managed market and are not quite organized yet. So, please be patient…and stay tuned for more info which is coming very shortly!

The good news is our Stone County Farmers Market vendors will continue to offer their goods throughout the winter season as they come available! They’ll be at Market bright and early this Saturday…as well as many Wednesdays and/or Saturdays throughout the winter season. So, be sure to check the classified section of our newspapers for Vendor ads and watch for announcements for special events that may pop up from time to time.

And, for those of you who would like to order online, the Stone County Locally Grown Market will soon be open for business! We look forward to offering this easy, order-in-advance option with purchases being delivered to the Market site for pickup on regularly scheduled days. One more way to support your local farmers and your community! We’ll be in touch with details for ordering soon.
